Where is the love?
December 30, 2008
Yesterday before catching Mind Your Language on okto, I had a long intelligent conversation with a friend of mine. It’s been a lenghty time since I last had one, and it felt nice. Topic of yesterday’s: the attacks in Gaza.
A conflict which has its roots in the dawn of religion, I find myself disgusted at heinous acts of both parties. In fact, acts of man through time immemorial. Self-proclaiming our species as the most civil of animals, yet we cause destruction. We invent weapons. We drive other species to extinction.
History has taught us nothing less than man being consumed by greed, power and wealth. Though there have been saints living among us in the old and tattered pages of the world, somehow, it seems that the killing, bombing and violence commited by the others take a frontseat. Why? because the saints that was mentioned have passed but the violence still exists. Violence of the present that have made use of the past as a means to justify the continued bullshit that I just read in the papers today.
You claim it has been an act of counter-attack on your part. So do you stop to consider that they might use the same reason to launch another attack? So when will this really end? If life is full of counter actions.. Well, it explains itself now doesn’t it? And you! Using armed conflict to justify a means, to protect your own, when they do counter, who are you protecting? The very people you sought to liberalise get shells aimed at them. The very people you sought to protect see missles raining down on them. The innocent, especially the innocent, do they have a say? Sure both sides are bound to times like these to persuade to gain support. But what message is actually being conveyed? and at what cost?
I guess this whole process of manipulating in times of anguish is not new to us huh? Radicals and extremists play hatred into their own hands. So is this exactly what is happening in Gaza? Political power being at the top of the agenda? Gaining support from ill informed people due to selective discharge of information? They fight for you, but you, the ring leader of it all, stay back in the safety of thousands and millions of brainwahed souls. Then you seek refuge and deny things such as the atrocities of your crime. This is all bull.
All in all, though a specific case studywas provided above, the entire post is not about that particular one only. It has been condensed to highlight a few of the crimes, in my eyes, the most civillised beings have done tat ad shaped the world today. When although many of us look out the window and see tall buildings, green trees and birds chirping. Not so far from that, we hear gun shots and flames bursting into the sky. Irony.
Israel, to me, is one of the more beutiful countries that I wish to someday visit. So please, let the chaos end.
